A media training workshop in Iraqi Kurdistan
Needless to say, the virus didn’t make it easy for us either. We were set to fly by last February, but the pandemic was hitting hard in a place where there are hardly any barriers or firebreaks against this invisible enemy. We are talking about the Iraqi Kurdistan region. Finally, we were able to fly on April 23 and put the plan in motion: media training for local journalists in Suleimania, Kirkuk and Halabja. For two weeks we have worked morning and afternoon in an intensive workshop through which we focus on handle basic journalistic tools in print press, photography and video. It was only thanks to this joint project with Mam Humanitarian Foundation that we could cater for 115 students, both men and women. Most of them were Kurds from Iraq but also displaced from Syria, as well as Arabs, Turkmens, Syriacs … They live here, they´re familiar with the dynamics and the powers in which their society revolves. In brief, they know what´s going on around them. They only need a few basic tools to be able to tell it to the rest of the world. We are all ears.
